It's been many years since I have been to Singapore during the Christmas season. So, this year, I took the family there for a weekend. The theme used has a few years now is Christmas In the Tropics. The term is apt as it really feels like Christmas in the US or Europe but really hot.
All the malls compete with each other to deck their building with the most elaborate decorations. Together with the Christmas items on sale and the Christmas songs in the air, one can really get into the Christmas spirit easily.
Along Orchard Road |
Inside Takashimaya |
There was also a charity event infront of Takashimaya. It was good to see a good turn out to support the event by the local Singaporeans. There were lots of things to buy, food, games (even pony ride) and some entertainment.
More decorations on the sidewalk of Orchard road. Not so many people during the day but it was sardine packed during the night plus the traffic jam was crazy.
It was also good to see many booths set up to get people to join as volunteers for a number of causes. However, not sure how the response was.
Below is the Christmas tree and decoration for Paragon Mall. Interesting upside down tree inside the mall too.
Then it started to rain and we were stuck and could not get across the road to catch the hotel shuttle back to the hotel. In the end, we had to queuefor an hour to get a taxi back.
We came back in the night to see the night lights. The whole road is turned into a fairyland and really lited up. So ,even in a jam it was not too bad.
Nice decoration for a residential upmarket building.
There was also a huge tree made up of Ferreror Rochelle chocolates. Really, no kidding. See the close up shot. However, I could not be sure whether they were just wrappers or contain real chocolates. Looks like nobody dared to try.
So, with all these going on, it is easy how one can get into the Christmas spirit easily. it is also the peak tourist season and I could see people from all nationalities and walk of life, including foreigners working and staying in Singapore. It is really a metropolis now.
Until the next time, cheers.
