Dragon Rock Jeju Island Korea

One of the main attraction in the island of Jeju, Korea is a volcanic rock that looks like a dragon head, hence the name. Jeju Island is somewhat mystical and it has a lot of folklore peculiar to this island. Even the culture and language is different from the mainland Korea.

On the way to see the rock.
We had to pass some shops.
Selling the famous local delicacies, squids and fried sweet potatoes.
An old kiln.
Tracking down the stairs.
Lots of volcanic rock on the rocky beach.
The dragon head rock from the back.
One can only see the dragon head from the side view.
One of the folklore is that you will get a baby boy if you rub the nose of the rock statue in Jeju Island. Due to this, this island is very popular with Koreans for their honeymoon. They can get the best of both world, a beautiful place and also the "guarantee" of a baby boy to continue the family name.

However, the most interesting is that the men in Jeju traditionally don't work. The household work, cooking, raising children as well as working for a living is done solely by the womenfolk. Isn't this a man's paradise? The joke is Korean men bring their wife here to show them how "lucky" they are in comparison to the women here.

Also, there is a saying that if a men marries a Jeju women, they will also be smiling and happy.

To continue the folklore, if one were to rub the tummy of the statue, one will become prosperous. Sounds to me like nonsense just to pull in the crowds but since I am here, why take the chance?

Jeju Island is famous for its seafood and such restaurants are everywhere. They all have live fishes, octopuses and other sea creatures and shellfishes. Looks good!!

Another view of the rock.

Until the next time, cheers.
