Westminster Cathedral, London

Many people, including me, makes the mistake of confusing the Westminster Cathedral with the Westminster Abbey, both in London. Obviously, the more famous one is the Abbey which is an Anglican church and the place where the royal household have their coronations, weddings and funerals. The cathedral is also much older and many famous people are also buried there. It is open to the public (with a fee) and also conducts religous services during the weekends.

On the other hand, the Westminster Cathedral is the Catholic cathedral for the Bishop of London. During my recent trip, I was lucky to be able to attend Sunday mass as well as Ash Wednesday mass there this March.

I was surprised to see the Cathedral very packed on both occasions. The best thing is the congregation is made of so many nationalities and races. Both masses had hymns in Latin and the choir was beautiful.

One thing that a few others told me is that the brick colors looks a little funny. I tend to agree. But once inside, it is forgotten. Although the cathedral is rather new (compared to others in Europe), it has its own character and charm.

Until the next time, cheers.
